The

Mosquito

If your wondering about mosquitoes?
The question is.....

Whether or not the male, or the female mosquito is the real blood sucker?

The Webster's Student Dictionary reads....
"Mosquito"
Any of a family of small, dipterous insects having in the female mouth parts that puncture the skin of animals and suck their blood.

The reason why they suck the blood is for the protein to produce eggs. Most species can produce several batches of eggs in their lifetime. Depending on the species, a female can lay 100 to 300 eggs at a time and 1,000 to 3,000 eggs in their lifetime. The larval and pupil stages can be found in many aquatic habitats including discarded containers, tires, temporary woodland pools, tree and crab holes, salt marshes and irrigation ditches.

Although they do not only depend on blood. When they are not sucking your blood, they live off carbohydrate sources such as nectar and fruit juices for several weeks.

The average life span of a female mosquito is 3 to 100 days. As for males, they are not so lucky. They live for an average of 10 to 20 days.

There are over 170 described species from North America. Several species have been introduced from other countries. Not to blame anyone. What's done is done. Lets worry about the future right?

Worldwide, mosquito-borne diseases kill more people than any other single factor!

Nasty little bastards arn't they.
